VINTAGE
The 2004 growing season started out with
a very early, warm and dry spring. Bud break occurred about a week ahead of schedule. Bloom was marked
with average temperatures and continued dry weather.
By summer the valley was very warm leading into late
July and early August, with near record high temperatures. Average temperatures prevailed through harvest with significant precipitation well into October. Ripening began in early August and red harvest commenced in
mid-September.
VINIFICATION
Grapes were gently crushed, and lots fermented separately on the skins for an average of seven to 10 days. During this time, a twice-daily pump over regime infused the fermenting juice with flavor, soft tannins and color. The wine was removed from the skins and placed into 50% French and 50% American new oak barrels. Racking occurred during the 26 months aging, and winemakers Doug Gore, Renzo Cotarella and Marcus Notaro tasted through the best wine lots to create the final blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
WINEMAKERS' NOTES
Aromas of cherry, black cherry and black current fruits fuse with smooth notes of vanilla, clove, and tobacco. Rich and balanced on the palate,
this wine finishes with long, lingering flavors of cocoa, black current, and vanilla.
